| Back on the road again – it’s a long way – we begin seeing animals out on the savannah. Antelopes, particularly Thomson’s gazelle, are plentiful. We don’t see many zebras, and no wildebeest at all, presumably because they’re far away – North of the Grumeti river – on their never-ending annual migration cycle. Suddenly David stops the Rover. Daniel has spotted a cheetah! It’s quite far away, and we can only see its head sticking up out of the tall grass, but it’s our first cheetah sighting, so of course we’re thrilled. Then, as we approach the center of the park, we see a lion. It’s a female, lazily stretched out on a dirt bank right next to the road, so close we can almost reach out and touch her. And she looks like she wouldn’t mind either, but of course this is one of those cases were looks deceive, and we wisely keep our hands inside the Rover. |
